Borussia Dortmund have reportedly rejected a bid in the region of €12m from Liverpool for their youngster Christian Pulisic.
German publication Kicker have claimed that Borussia Dortmund have rejected Liverpool’s €12m bid for their young superstar Christian Pulisic. The report added that the hierarchy at Dortmund are likely to be open to negotiating a deal for the player but feel that Liverpool’s bid is too small for their American youngster.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was the one who brought Pulisic to Dortmund in the first place for their U17 squad with the player getting promoted to the U19 squad at the club by the end of the 2014-15 season.
Since then, the 17-year-old has managed to make his debut for the senior squad and gone on to make nine Bundesliga appearances for the club with two goals to his name.
Pulisic has a few individual records to his name on the international level too as he became the youngest American to play in a World Cup qualifier against Guatemala in March 2016. The 17 year old also broke the record to become the youngest goalscorer for the United States in the modern era in a 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia in May 2016.
The Dortmund player already has six international appearances for the senior squad of the United States and is seen by the fans and experts as a future superstar both domestically and for his nation.
Pulisic was named on the bench in the season-opener against Mainz but was not brought on to the pitch as Dortmund fought to a narrow 2-1 win over their opponents.
The report has also added that Borussia Dortmund’s Sporting director, Michael Zorc has made it clear that any deal regarding Pulisic must have to be a permanent transfer deal and that the club is not interested in loaning the player out to another club.
Jurgen Klopp seems interested in a re-union with the 17-year-old and it is likely that Liverpool would go back in with another offer before the transfer deadline. It will be interesting to see the valuation of Dortmund for their exciting prospect, which the club is yet to reveal.
With only a couple of days left before the transfer deadline, Liverpool must move fast if they are to secure a deal for the teenage sensation as Pulisic is set to see a tug-of-war between Dortmund and Liverpool for his services.
