Palermo have reportedly made an offer for out-of-favour Liverpool star Mario Balotelli in an attempt to bolster their attacking options.
Italian media outlet Gazza Mercato have revealed that Serie A side Palermo have made an offer for Mario Balotelli, who is reportedly unwanted by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. The report has added that Palermo are now waiting for a response from Liverpool in the hope that they are able to land the Italian.
Gazza Mercato published their story after an interview with Palermo’s vice-president, Guglielmo Micciche. Micciche was asked about the club’s interest in Balotelli and revealed that Palermo had indeed made an offer for the 26-year-old.
“We’ve made an offer and now the ball is in Liverpool and the player’s court. His salary is high and he has a pool of sponsors, so it’s not an easy solution, but Palermo could be just the right place for him,” Micciche told Gazza Mercato.
“It’s a very difficult operation, but we’re trying. It would be a great coup for president [Maurizio] Zamparini, a gift for all of the fans.”
Mario Balotelli did spend the first few months after his birth in Sicily and Micciche revealed that according to him, the city of Palermo would welcome him back with open arms and that the signing of the striker would be a major coup for the club. Micciche also added that the 26-year-old would be a leader for the squad and could become an immediate fan favourite at Palermo.
Balotelli’s future has been the subject of much speculation, with the Italian reportedly offered to a host of clubs who showed little interest in signing the player. The Liverpool striker was recently reported to be on the verge of agreeing a move to OGC Nice, but Palermo’s involvement might provide a fresh twist in the Italian’s transfer saga.
Palermo finished a lowly 16th last season and would be hoping to improve on their woeful campaign. Balotelli could provide the club with some much-needed spark to push the team back to competing for European spots.
