Schalke have reportedly confirmed that they are interested in a deal to bring Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry to Germany.

Serge Gnabry has had a difficult time at Arsenal and, in large parts, has failed to rise to the occasion and make a stamp on the first-team setup at Emirates. The German has struggled to stay fit amidst a string of injuries, with his last Arsenal appearance coming more than two years ago in March 2014.

Even though Arsene Wenger is known to give opportunities to talented youngsters and has also made the media aware of the talent and ability the 21-year-old possesses, but the French manager has failed to show much faith in the youngster.

The player spoke of his hope to put his difficult times behind and break through at Arsenal this season before the Olympics started, but his performances in the Rio Olympics for Germany has attracted attention from a host of Bundesliga clubs.

Mainz, Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig were all reported to be eyeing a deal for the 21-year-old, who is coming back from the Olympics with a silver medal, facing defeat at the hands of hosts Brazil on penalties in the final. The Arsenal star was credited for running the show for Germany as he finished the tournament with six goals to his name.

Schalke were the latest club to have linked with the player and club director Christian Heidel confirmed their interest in securing the services of the 21-year-old while also admitting that they were just one of the many Bundesliga clubs interested in the player.

“Except Bayern, 17 of the 18 Bundesliga clubs are interested in a deal for Gnabry,” Heidel told the reporters hinting at the club’s interest for Gnabry.

Schalke not interested in Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min.

On the other hand, Schalke director took questions regarding the club’s links to a deal involving Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min, who had only recently made the move from Bayer Leverkusen to Premier League last season. But  he has since not been able to make an impact in England and has not been able to tie down a place in the starting lineup.

Schalke have recently signed Paris-Saint Germain’s Benjamin Stambouli and Nabil Bentaleb from Tottenham and Heidel was dismissive of reports linking him to another Tottenham player in Son Heung-Min.

“I wondered where that rumour came from. We won’t buy half of Tottenham’s team. Son has nothing to do with Schalke,” the club director was quoted by Der Westen.

Tottenham have secured the services of Dutch international Vincent Janssen, which has pushed the Korean international further down the pecking order and the Londoners are reported to be willing to listen to offers for the former Hamburg youngster.

Schalke, though, have rebuffed the media’s claims that the Bundesliga club are lining up a move for the 24-year-old to bring the player back to Bundesliga, where Son’s stock saw a rapid rise with his goals and assists. His performances in the German league was the reason Spurs came knocking for the forward in the first place.

It would be interesting to see how these transfers shape up and whether Schalke are able to strengthen their squad by landing either or both of the reported targets.
