Jurgen Klopp stated that he is uncertain whether Liverpool will sign any more players this summer, but insisted that the club would not panic buy on the basis of one game.

Klopp was infuriated by his side’s performance in the 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Burnley, but did not give any assurances as to whether or not he is planning to make any more signings this summer. The Liverpool manager insisted, however, that the club would not make any panic buys because of the unexpected defeat on Saturday.

According to the Daily Mirror, Klopp said: “If one game should change my mind then I would be a real idiot.” When asked if the club would make new signings before the end of the tranfer window, the German replied, “The answer is I don’t know – we will see. I know you would all buy a left back – but a midfielder? Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player.”

Liverpool began their 2016/17 Premier League campaign in the best possible way with a 4-3 away victory against Arsenal. The Reds attackers put up an incredible offensive performance on the day as they ran riot over a shaky-looking Arsenal defence. However, Klopp’s defence did not convince at the Emirates, shipping three goals.

A week on from the Arsenal game, Liverpool travelled to Turf Moor to take on Burnley. The newly-promoted side went into the match as clear underdogs but managed to pull off an incredible upset. Despite having the lion’s share of possession, the Reds failed to find the back of the net. Their defenders again looked unconvincing as Sam Vokes and Andre Gray managed to score for Burnley. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Merseysiders need to strengthen defensively — particularly in the left-back position.

James Milner — a midfielder by trade —  was deployed as a left-back by Klopp, who seems to be unhappy with the performances of Alberto Moreno. The Spanish defender has often come under scrutiny due to his lacklustre showings for over a year with Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly in the market for a new left-back with names such as Jonas Hector, Jetro Willems and Ben Chilwell linked with a move to Anfield this summer.
