Wenger wants to continue Arsenal FC unbeaten streak, praises club stability ahead of new season

Arsenal kick off their new season against Liverpool on Sunday. Ahead of the big game, manager Arsene Wenger praised the stability at the club while emphasising on the need to improve on their second place finish last season.

Wenger, who may be entering his last season as the manager of Arsenal, has praised the club’s ambition and stability ahead of their Premier League opener against Liverpool. He is keen to ensure that the Gunners continue their 10-match unbeaten streak from last season.

“I think we have stability. We finished second last season and we have all the desire to improve as a team, so we know that we have to jump forward and continue to improve,” said Wenger in the pre-match press conference, according to the official club website.

“There is anxiety because you want to do well and you know how important it is, and maybe this season more than ever it looks like every club has new ambition so it promises to be a very exciting one and a very difficult one as well.

“We are on a good run in the Premier League… a 10-game unbeaten run, and we want to continue that. I think we are focused, we have a huge desire in the squad, we are very ambitious and we are humble enough as well to know that it is difficult in every single game to win in the Premier League.”

Arsenal started off last season very strongly as they looked odds on favourites to win the Premier League. However, they faltered mid-season, as eventual champions Leicester City and bitter rivals Tottenham grabbed the momentum. The Gunners still managed to one-up their North London rivals on the last day of the season, as they leapfrogged them into second place.

The established elite of the Premier League like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea had fallen far off the pace last season and it was the perfect opportunity for the Gunners to win the league. They face a much more difficult task now with all the other clubs making significant moves in the transfer market. As he enters the final year of his contract, a title win could help Wenger end a two-decade long association with Arsenal on a happy note.
