After a hugely unsuccessful stint at Camp Nou, Alex Song has left Barcelona for Russian side Rubin Kazan.

According to Allan Valente of Sky Sports, Russian giants Rubin Kazan confirmed the signing of former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder Alexandre Song. The Cameroonian failed to make a mark at the Camp Nou, and was rightly allowed to leave.

The 28-year-old moved to Barcelona from Arsenal in August 2012 for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million. Then only 24, Song was considered as one of the best holding midfielders at the time. But he failed to establish himself as a regular in the Blaugrana side, making just 65 appearances for the club.

His poor performances in Spain saw him linked with a move back to England, and West Ham decided to bring the midfielder back to the Premier League on a loan deal. In his first few games at the Boleyn Ground, the former Arsenal player impressed but unfortunately he failed to maintain consistency.

Now, in the Russian Premier League, the 28-year-old would look to reinvent his career and elevate his game to the next level.

Barcelona have decided to cancel the contract of right-back Martin Montoya, permitting him to sign a four-year-deal with fellow Spanish side Valencia. The Spaniard made 66 appearances for the Catalan Giants and also scored two goals for them. He also has a Champions League winners’ medal to his name along with three La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey championships.

According to Goal, the 25-year-old expressed his excitement about joining Valencia.

“Valencia first expressed their interest in me a few months ago. They are a big club, an historic club and I decided to come here,” he told the club’s official website.

“We are going to try to get the club back into the Champions League, which is where they belong. I am going to work hard; I promise a lot of dedication, effort and sacrifice. Together we will try to achieve our objectives,” stated the defender.
