Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard is reportedly in talks over a new contract with the management at Old Trafford.

Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has been with the club since 2000 after joining the club as a 7-year-old. The Warrington-born youngster has progressed through the ranks at United and was a part of the side that won the 2010-11 FA Youth Cup. The 23-year-old spent his early years on loan to various Championship clubs and performed well in each of those loans.

Lingard made his senior competitive debut in the 2014-15 season opener against Swansea City under Louis Van Gaal after impressing the Dutchman during the International Champions Cup in the preseason. The Englishman was however restricted to a single appearance in the season for the Red Devils and found himself on loan to Championship side Derby County.

Jesse Lingard has been at the club since the age of seven and has often spoken of the delight at fulfilling his dream of being a regular in the United first-team.

The 2015-16 season was where the winger made his breakthrough into the first-team by appearing in 25 Premier League games for the club with a decent return of 4 goals and 1 assist to his name. Although the returns were not as impressive as one would expect from a winger, the United staff and fans alike have fallen in love with the Englishman’s work ethic and willingness to get on the ball.

Manchester United were reportedly in talks with Jesse Lingard at the end of last season over a new contract. There was an air of uncertainty about all the players’ future at Old Trafford after the sacking of Louis Van Gaal and Lingard was no exception. The talks were kept on hold till the new manager Jose Mourinho took full charge of the day-to-day activities at the club.

Caught Offside and Mirror have now reported that the Portuguese has given the Manchester United hierarchy the green light to resume contract talks with Lingard. The report states that a trio of top Premier League clubs – Tottenham, Everton and West Ham – were interested in the winger but the manager is impressed by the United academy graduate’s quality and potential.

There were certain doubts regarding his future after the sacking of Louis Van Gaal but new manager Jose Mourinho is a stickler for work ethic and has been reportedly impressed by Jesse Lingard who seems to share the Portugese manager’s passion for hard work.

The Portuguese has decided to make him a part of his first-team plans this season after being impressed by his display in the first friendly of the preseason against Wigan over the weekend. Manchester United are now preparing to hold talks with Jesse Lingard over a new contract with the new deal handing the Englishman a hefty pay rise. The new contract is to reportedly net Lingard close to £40,000 per-week at Old Trafford.

His work would be cut out at the club due to the transfers of established superstars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The winger has, however, previously shown that he has what it takes to make the cut and is willing to fight for his place in the United squad. The Warrington-born winger is most likely to be signing a new contract soon and it looks like young Jesse’s Red romance is set to continue for a long, long time.
