Juventus are looking to sign Manchester United’s Memphis Depay amidst doubts over the winger’s future at Old Trafford.
The former Eredivisie star joined Manchester United last season for £25m from PSV Eindhoven. The 22-year-old managed to make 46 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring 7 goals in the process. However, he was heavily criticised for his work ethic as he failed to replicate his Eredvisie form which saw him score 39 goals in 90 league appearances.
Newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho is looking to shape his squad at Old Trafford and Memphis’ future is in doubts, as the Portuguese is not likely to accept his lack of desire and work-ethic. The influx of new players along with the form of the youngsters may see Mourinho offload the Dutch sensation.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Goal), Juventus are preparing a shock bid for the Dutch winger to bring him to Italy. The report states that the Serie A champions are looking to sign a winger after Cuadrado’s loan deal expired, and could make an approach for Memphis Depay. The fee is reported to be around €20m – less than the what the Red Devils paid to bring the former PSV man to Old Trafford.
Memphis was a highly sought after player in 2015 and the Old Trafford faithful were seemingly delighted by the signing. But, the Dutch winger has had a difficult first season with the club and was largely restricted to substitute appearances by the end of the season.
Manchester United have been linked with a plethora of wingers this summer. The Red Devils were reported to have made a sensational bid for Bundesliga ace Julian Draxler and were also rumoured to be in the race to sign Mexican winger Hirving Lozano. Also, with the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Depay is likely to get even lesser playing time at Old Trafford, and could be pushing for an exit.
Jose Mourinho looks set to bring in more fresh faces at Old Trafford and would be looking to offload the players that he doesn’t seem fit for his playing style and his demanding routine. Memphis has shown he is ready to fight for his place at Old Trafford, but could see himself leaving the Red Devils just 12 months after joining the Premier League heavyweights.
