Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign highly touted 20-year-old wing forward Hirving Lozano from Pachuca, after being linked with the Mexican for months.
Manchester United are in negotiations with Pachuca to sign Hirving Lozano, according to the Mexican club’s vice president. Javier Hernandez is the only Mexican ever to play for Manchester United and Lozano could soon be following in Chicharito’s footsteps.
Pachuca’s Sporting director Andrea Fassi had earlier revealed to Record MX that United were among a number of clubs monitoring the 20-year old forward. In early July, 2016, Fassi said to ESPN, “Already there is negotiations with that team [United]? Yes. There is still nothing closed though.”
Earlier, Pachuca president Jesus Martinez had revealed that United had been monitoring Lozano, “[The chief scout] has been coming here to do special reports on our players, but especially Chucky. We would love it if he had to go that it would be to a team like Manchester United or Porto.” The other players in question are reported to be Erick Gutierrez and Rodolfo Pizarro.
In an interview with Futbol Entre Lineas, Lozano’s father-in-law spoke about the Manchester United deal. He said, “Yes. It’s all done, just missing some details and after the Olympics, the deal will become official.”
Hirving Lozano is another result of United’s extensive scouting united led by Chief Scout Jim Lawlor. Lawlor was the man who scouted Javier Hernandez extensively for Ferguson before United signed the Little Pea from Chivas Guadalajara for a modest fee of £6 million in 2010. The Mexican then went on to tally 157 appearances for the Red Devils scoring 59 goals. The forward won 2 Premier league titles during his stay at Old Trafford and was widely appreciated by the fans. The Chief Scout has now been keeping tabs on Lozano, who is expected to make a move to United after the Olympics.
Hirving Lozano made his debut for Pachuca in February 2014. Pachuca’s number 8 has since gone on to make 91 appearances for the club, netting 21 goals. Lozano was included in Liga MX’s Team of The Year for the recently concluded 2015-16 season. He scored a solitary goal in his 7 senior international appearances. He is in the Mexican side for Olympics and will be looking to make heads turn with his performances.
The 20-year-old is a right-footed out-and-out winger who likes to play on the left flank. He has a ferocious right foot and is a danger with his shooting ability when cutting inside from the wing. His pace and dribbling ability is a particular highlight and comes in handy when taking on defenders. The Mexican is still relatively raw and has age on his side to develop further. Manchester United have been on the lookout for a new winger to add to the squad and Lozano seems to fit the bill perfectly.
