Arsenal’s search for a striker seems to have taken them to Brazil with the Emirates outfit reportedly chasing Santos’ latest superstar, Gabigol.

According to ESPN Brazil, Arsenal have sent an official offer to the Brazilian sensation’s representatives. The report also suggests that the player is excited about the prospect and has told his representatives that he wishes to play only for elite European clubs like The Gunners.

Gabriel Barbosa, better known as Gabigol, has been tipped to be the next big talent to come out of Brazil. The Santos no.10 joined the club at the age of 8 and made his debut when he was only 16. He has scored 22 goals in 78 appearances in the league. He made instant impact on the international level for the Samba Boys as well, scoring on his debut in a 2-0 friendly win against Panama. He has a total of 2 goals from 4 appearances for the national team.

Arsenal fans would be ready to doll out the Bhangra step at the prospect of Gabigol

Arsenal are not the only team after Gabigol, though. ESPN Brazil reported earlier that Gabigol had proposals from other European clubs and Chinese Super League club, Hebei. Elsewhere, there have been reported interest from Inter Milan and FiorentinaYahoo! Sports, Brazil have also reported interest from Germany with Borussia Dortmund preparing an offer for the Santos forward.

Gabriel Barbosa is a versatile attacker who can play in all offensive positions. He is a good header of the ball and is also a proven passer specialising in defense-splitting through-balls. However, Wenger would be mainly looking to add the Brazilian to the squad for his finishing prowess; the one quality that Arsenal fans and pundits alike have pointed out to be missing from the Arsenal squad. The deal is still in its early stages and is likely to take some time before being finalised.

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal seem to have world class talent all across the pitch and Gabigol might just be the much-needed icing on the Frenchman’s tactfully prepared cake.
