Brazil and Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis has urged Philippe Coutinho to make a move to the Vicente Calderon this summer after the Liverpool star hammered a hat-trick in Brazil’s 7-1 win over Haiti in their Copa America Group B match on Thursday.
Liverpool are reported to have rejected a £23 million bid for Coutinho from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain recently. Coutinho has denied any knowledge of the same, but it is clear that Europe’s top clubs are interested in the little Brazilian genius. Iconic Brazil right-back Dani Alves recently admitted that Coutinho will be a perfect fit at Barcelona.
Following Coutinho’s stunning performance against Haiti, teammate Filipe Luis urged the former Inter Milan man to join Atletico Madrid.
“Coutinho asked me how it feels to play in a Champions League final,” Luis said following Coutinho’s stunning performance, according to the Metro. “He’d be welcomed at Atletico, he has the quality.
“Coutinho is amazing and can make the difference. We discussed that he can play for top Champions League sides.”
Philippe Coutinho is too good to not be playing in the Champions League
The 23-year-old has impressed one and all with his guile and craft in midfield since making his £8.5 million move from Internazionale to Liverpool. One of the key players in the 2013-14 season to Liverpool’s title challenge, Coutinho helped the Reds finish second in the league. Having scored 21 goals in 107 games for the club, the Brazilian has shown he can score crucial goals as well as boss the midfield on his day. His goalscoring record for his country isn’t too bad either, with four goals in 16 appearances already.
However, Liverpool haven’t been competing at the top level for the past two seasons, and far too often, Coutinho seems to be the only sparkling player in their ranks. Coutinho has some of the best clubs in Europe interested his signature and it is difficult to imagine him resisting the temptation to make the step up over the coming seasons given his quality and potential.
