In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Alvaro Morata confirmed every Juventus fan’s suspicion. Without demeaning the Italian giants, he spoke about his desire to play for Real Madrid and his excitement to travel to England if the opportunity presented itself.
Alvaro Morata looks set to leave Juventus as Real Madrid will exercise the buy-back option they included as part of his sale to Serie A champions Juventus. The idea was that Real would buy him back for the stipulated amount and then sell him abroad for a profit. Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in securing his signature, with a gargantuan offer of €60 million reportedly being prepared, which would make him the most expensive transfer in Arsenal’s history.
Morata spoke at length about his boyhood club and his dream to establish himself with Los Blancos. “Of course returning to Real Madrid is what I’d like best,” said the 23-year-old (via Football Italia). “This is my desire, to win with Real Madrid”. However, the Spain international acknowledges that Real Madrid have a number of top players in every position and that he is unlikely to be guaranteed a regular starting berth.
On his Juventus experience
“My experience at Juventus was rewarding,” Morata told the Spanish newspaper AS. “I won everything that could be won in Italy, more than once, I made it into the final of the Champions League, I scored and I developed as a player and as a person.”
Juventus was the club that gave Morata his identity and he repaid that with dedicated service to the club, but the time is perhaps right for the Spaniard to establish himself as a first-choice option at a top club.
England calling
Real Madrid have no intention of making Morata a first team player, with the likes of Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez doing so excellently for the first team. The objective is to sell Morata to a Premier League club, which would result in a sizeable profit for Real Madrid.
Morata himself appears keen on a move to England, saying, “I have a few offers in England and I’m tempted, not just because of the salary. I think the Premier League would be a great achievement for me, given my characteristics.
“This isn’t to say that I want to leave Juventus, a team that I have nothing but kind words for. I’m just saying that going to the Premier League wouldn’t be a step back, on the contrary. With all the things that I learned in Italy, having the opportunity to learn something more in England would make of me a more complete player, I think.”
Morata, who struggled earlier on last season, may have difficulties finding form immediately in the Premier League, and is therefore right to approach this cautiously. The Premier League or its fans might not be as patient as the Serie A fans with whom Morata shares a great bond.
This is something worth considering since Morata was never able to hit his stride with Real Madrid, and a great many strikers have lost their way after moving from Italy to England. Juventus would undoubtedly lose one of their finest players, a void that will perhaps be filled by Domenico Berardi.
