Klopp reveals brutal Liverpool fitness regime for pre-season, including ‘special plan’ and triple sessions

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is serious about getting the Reds back on track next season and has signaled his intent by charting out a strict pre-season training regime for his squad.

Most of the players in the Liverpool squad are set to have a busy summer, as they have to take part in the Euro 2016 in June and July while Philippe Coutinho will be representing Brazil at the 2016 Copa America.

However, Klopp clearly stated that his players need to start working hard from pre-season itself. He was quoted saying in the Daily Express, “It’s triple training sessions, of course. We have to do a lot to create a base for one year. We have a special plan of what we want to do with the boys. Nearly all of them have national team games now but you cannot have six weeks off.”

Klopp further explained the break-up of Liverpool’s pre-season plans, saying the four weeks available between the end of Euro 2016 and the start of the Premier League season will be broken up into two parts of two weeks each.

“You have something like four weeks and in four weeks you cannot sleep for the whole time, so you have two weeks completely off and you have a plan and you have to do it,” said Klopp. “That means when you come back you are not at nil, you are at 60 to 70 per cent and then you can start training. That’s how it works.”

Can Klopp bring back the lost glories?

Jurgen Klopp already seems to have worked his magic with the Kop, taking Liverpool to their first two cup finals in his very first season in charge at the club. The team looks like it has the belief to go out and get the desired results once again, and is always prepared to give their opponents a real fight till the end.

Although Liverpool have not been as consistent with their performances in the league, this can be attributed to the fact that Klopp has not been able to sign the players. Once he does get to do that, we might be able to see a very different Liverpool unit next season.
