Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has some ideas about how his players should be rewarded as the end of the season approaches with Spurs and Leicester City left to fight it out for the Premier League title.
Arsenal and Manchester City have fallen away from the summit, leaving Tottenham Hotspur looking like the only team that can take the title away from runaway leaders Leicester City. It remains a huge challenge though, and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino recently stated that his players deserved to have their statues built if they managed to pull off a historic title win.
“If we won the championship, I think that every player would deserve a statue,” said the Argentine manager, according to the Guardian.
“The challenge is big because the gap is big but to keep fighting in the way that we have fought and, in the end, win the title – all the people would recognise our value. And we would be happy, too. We cannot fight against all that happens around Leicester.
“We need to fight against them, and against us and our opponents, and it’s a very good challenge. We know that all the people want Leicester to be champions but we need to believe that we can change the story.”
Tottenham still stand a chance in the battle of the underdogs
Arsenal lost key points against Crystal Palace on Sunday, and though Manchester City seem to be finding form yet again, they are some distance behind in the title race. Tottenham are currently eight points adrift of the Foxes with a game in hand. A win against Stoke City would cut the difference to five, but they would still have to rely on the Foxes dropping points in at least three of their remaining games, two of which are against Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Premier League title looks to be Leicester City’s, but Spurs are the only team looking like they could burst the Foxes’ bubble.
