Neymar urges £97m rated Paul Pogba to join FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona’s Brazilian star Neymar Jr. believes that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is currently one of the best midfielders, and would fit well with the Blaugrana.

Neymar, who is on course to win the treble (La Liga, Champions League, and Copa Del Rey) with Barcelona, has scored 24 goals and provided 14 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions this season. He has also gone on to form a deadly forward line at the Camp Nou, with fellow South American forwards Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

However, the Brazil national team captain has said that he would like to see Juventus’s £97 million rated star Paul Pogba in Barcelona’s midfield, as he considers the Frenchman one of the best young players in the world.

“I would like to have Pogba’s shirt. He’s young, I like how he plays, how he behaves. I’d love to swap shirts with him., and I think he would fit well at Barcelona,” Neymar was quoted as saying on La Liga’s official website.

The Barcelona star, who has played with big names like Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaka, and Iniesta, said that Lionel Messi is the best player that he has played with.

“What I like about Barcelona is that the players we have are fantastic. The best is [Lionel] Messi, and my best friend in football is [Dani] Alves,” said Neymar.

Can Pogba replace Iniesta at the Camp Nou?

Pogba has been increasingly playing better for Juventus over the years, ever since his free transfer to the Turin based club from Manchester United in 2012. The French midfielder has gone from strength to strength since then, and has now become one of the best midfielders in the world. In fact, the £97 million price tag that Juventus has put on Pogba’s head is testament to how good the 23-year-old is.

The main question in this regard though is whether or not he can replace the ageing Andres Iniesta in the Barcelona squad. Statistically speaking, Pogba has produced 10 assists in all competitions this season, as compared to Iniesta’s one. Also, the Frenchman shades the Spaniard 1.5-1.3 in the key passes per match department.

However, Iniesta has been the heartbeat of Barcelona’s midfield, almost playing the role that a point guard plays in Basketball. While Pogba might be yet to show as much mastery over the ball as Iniesta, there is every reason to believe that the Juventus star will become better with age.
