After Arsenal’s 4-0 win against Watford at the Emirates Stadium, a near flawless performance that saw the likes of Iwobi, Sanchez, Bellerin and Theo Walcott get on the scoresheet, Arsene Wenger spoke to the media in his post match press conference and reflected on the result, his side’s consistency, the title race, key performers and the future.

Speaking on the victory, Arsenal.com reports that the Frenchman said “We played well. We had a good flow in our game and a good desire to play. Our technical quality was high and we combined the fact that we played well and that we could score as well. In the FA Cup defeat we had the same domination but we couldn’t score. That makes a big difference.”

On The Title Race

The win sees Arsenal retain third spot on the table and keep up with second placed Spurs. Wenger maintained that they want to focus on the quality and speed of their game in the future.

He said, “We will fight until the end to have a chance. The only way we can achieve that is by playing games with our team quality. That is based on our movement, on our technical ability to play at the highest level and at the highest pace.”

Furthermore, speaking on Arsenal’s consistency this season he said: “The title is never there for the taking, you have to work for it. Everybody works for it and you have to respect the teams who have more points than you, and who have not played in as many competitions. “

On Alex Iwobi and Elneny

Iwobi played a starring role in the victory against the Hornets, registering a goal and an assist, taking the MOTM award. Speaking about the youngster Wenger said “We have values in our club that are maybe not rated always, but one of them is to give a chance to young people and educate them. Every year we bring players out and not many players can say that. I’m happy Alex is one of them.”

Wenger also reserved some praise for  Mohamed Elneny, who was given a starting berth in today’s 4-0 win. The midfielder did not disappoint, as he broke a 2015/2016 Premier League record by playing the most number of passes in one match by a single player with an incredible tally of 121.

Wenger spoke on the Egyptian saying, “He has brought something to the team. He is a very intelligent player who is also very mobile and works very hard for the team. He gives us tactical stability.”

While this victory marks an impressive performance by the Arsenal team, with the likes of Iwobi, Elneny, Ozil playing starring roles, the Gunners’ faithful will still be wondering if they can continue to perform consistently at this level. This victory is likely to only partially eclipse the disappointment of the losses before the recent international break. Arsenal’s inability to perform in high pressure matches has seen them fall behind in the title race numerous times in past seasons, and fans will be hoping that Wenger will look to fix this sooner rather than later.
