Former Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers set to take over at Swansea City next season

The Northern Irishman, who took Liverpool tantalisingly close to the Premier League title in 2013-14, is reportedly set to return to Swansea City next season.

Since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, Brendan Rodgers has been quickly forgotten by the Anfield faithful. Following his dismissal from Liverpool, the 43-year-old has been on a sabbatical of sorts, only making public appearances as a TV pundit. However, it now appears as though the former Liverpool boss is ready to return to club management.

According to the Daily Express, Rodgers is in line to become the next manager of Swansea City, with current manager Francesco Guidolin believed to be one of the top candidates for the Italian national job in the summer. Current Italy manager Antonio Conte recently confirmed that he will be leaving his position after the 2016 Euros.

This turn of events has opened the door for Rodgers to rejoin Swansea City, the club that he helped promote to Premier League status in 2011.

Win-win situation for club and manager

Brendan Rodgers is a historic manager for Swansea City, in the sense that he guided them to victory in the Championship in 2011. In the process, Swansea became the first Welsh team to gain promotion to the Premier League. His first season as a Premier League manager was also a huge success, as he helped the Swans to stave off relegation comfortably.

These two successful years led to a move to Liverpool, where Rodgers started off with a bang but bowed out with a whimper. After leading the Reds to seventh, second and sixth-placed finishes in three full seasons in charge, he was shown the door in October 2015.

Swansea City have faltered similarly since Rodgers’ departure, finishing eighth in 2014-15, but losing their way and becoming genuine relegation contenders this season. A move for their former manager could prove beneficial for both parties involved.
