Juventus marched to a 1-0 victory over seventh placed Sassuolo to further cement their spot at the top of the Serie A table.
Argentine forward Paulo Dybala scored the decisive goal of the match, and his fourteenth of the season, as I Bianconeri opened up a six point lead atop the Serie A table.
Speaking after the match, Dybala expressed how his team had turned their season around after an uninspiring start that saw them win just one of their first six league games.
“After our loss against Sassuolo in October, no one gave us a chance of competing for the title,” said Dybala, according to FourFourTwo.
“Everyone had written us off and now here we are.”
Juventus are currently on a 19 match unbeaten streak and are competing in all three of the top competitions in Italy and Europe. Leading the Serie A title race, Juventus face AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia in May, while heading into the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich after a 2-2 draw in Turin.
“We will have to wait and see what happens in the remaining fixtures this weekend but we will still be top, in a cup final and with a great test against Bayern Munich just around the corner,” Dybala added, when asked about his hopes for the remainder of the season.
Napoli’s dream shattered as Juventus chase high five
With Juventus stuttering in the opening stages of their campaign, it looked like Napoli were the ones who were looking to rule Italy. The Neopolitans led the Serie A table for much of the season, that is until they came up against the defending champions. Italian forward Simone Zaza struck what could be a decisive blow to Napoli’s title hopes, giving Juventus a 1-0 win over their rivals.
I Bianconeri have dominated the Serie A once again this season, racking up fifteen wins on the trot and falling just two wins short of Internazionale’s record winning streak of 2006-07. They have won four Scudetto titles in a row before this, and are now looking to extend that run to five consecutive titles, which would equal the all-time Serie A record.
