Aaron Ramsey ruled out for 6 weeks, Arsenal’s title challenge and Euro hopes in the balance

The box-to-box midfielder came off the pitch, shortly after coming on during Arsenal’s FA Cup tie against Hull City. The thigh strain that forced him off was examined by the medical staff on Wednesday, and  he could be out for up to six weeks because of it.

Arsene Wenger’s injury woes seem to be getting worse with every match. Their star goalkeeper Petr Cech was ruled out for a month after sustaining an injury in their Premier League game against Swansea City last week. He is now joined on the sidelines by midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who came off with a thigh injury during the Gunners’ FA Cup match against Hull City.

According to the Sun, Ramsey could be out for up to six weeks, effectively ruling him out for the majority of Arsenal’s end season title campaign. This could also affect his international ambitions, as he may miss out on Euro 2016 in France, if he doesn’t get back to full fitness in time.

The midfielder is an integral part of the Wales team which will head into the tournament with big hopes, but he will need to prove himself fit and able before the big tournament. Wales are in a tough group with England, Russia and Slovakia, and will be hoping they can call upon their former captain’s services.

Another one bites the dust

Arsenal’s season has been marred by injury troubles this time around. Manager Arsene Wenger spent most of mid-season dealing with injuries to key players like Francis Coquelin, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey has followed in the footsteps of Tomas Rosicky this season, who was injured again after his brief return to action, joining a considerable set of walking wounded at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger now has to deal with injuries to as many as nine players, including Santi Cazorla, Petr Cech, Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The good news for Arsenal though is that another midfielder who has been missing for most part of the season, Jack Wilshere, is nearing fitness. Wilshere could slot into the first team instead of Ramsey, and spare Wenger some headaches.
