Mourinho resigns himself to rejection from Manchester United

The former Real Madrid manager has reportedly been trying to facilitate a move to the Premier League for months now, but is set to be spurned because of his inability to nurture young players.

Ever since former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was sacked in December, he has constantly been linked with a move to Manchester United. During the worst days of the Red Devils’ terrible slump at the end of last year, where they were knocked out of the Champions League and lost three successive games in the Premier League, it was being widely reported that Mourinho was on his way to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese has often admitted to his desire to take on the managerial job at Manchester United, and it seemed like his wish was about to come true, with senior players reportedly wanting Mourinho as manager in place of the ‘Iron Tulip’ Louis van Gaal.

But after Manchester United hit a rich vein of form recently, they are apparently not interested in acquiring the services of the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea manager anymore. According to the Mirror, even Jose Mourinho himself has resigned himself to the fact that he will not be taking over at Old Trafford next season.

Instead Manchester United are expected to continue with their original plan of having Louis van Gaal remain for all three years of his contract, and have current assistant manager Ryan Giggs take over after him.

Mourinho doesn’t do well with the academy

The primary reason that has allegedly ruled Mourinho out of the Manchester United job is his bad record with youth players. Mourinho is not known as a manager who gives young players generous chances. During his time at Chelsea, most of the academy products were sent out on loan, and only Ruben Loftus-Cheek found his way into the first team. Mourinho also let go of budding talents like Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have prided themselves on giving their young players the chance to shine, and they’ve had a homegrown player in every single match-day squad since 1937. Even manager in waiting Ryan Giggs is an academy product, a member of the illustrious class of ’92.
