Liverpool Team Update: Sturridge, Sakho Set To Return For Crystal Palace Clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the return of defender Mamadou Sakho and attacker Daniel Sturridge for the Crystal Palace game on Sunday, but midfielder Lucas Leiva has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

Sturridge had missed the midweek clash against Manchester City having suffered from cramps in last week’s League Cup final defeat, while Sakho had been out of action since suffering a blow to his head in the first half of the same game.

Both players are expected to feature at some point, if not from the start, as Liverpool hope to extend their five games unbeaten run against a Crystal Palace side that has not won a single game in the last eleven games.

Palace, however, have proved to be a difficult opponent to a high-flying Tottenham Hotspur side, who lost 1-0 at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup just a couple of weeks ago.

Lucas out for six weeks with freakish injury

The duo have returned to training as per manager Jurgen Klopp, who also revealed the freakish nature of the injury suffered by midfielder Lucas in the League Cup clash against Manchester City that will see him miss up to six weeks of action.

Klopp was quoted as saying by Liverpoolfc.com:”I’ve never heard of an injury like this, after taking a penalty. It’s a quad injury, he’ll be out for five or six weeks.

“Mama did a little bit today for the first time, but we didn’t really do a lot because it was the second day after a game.

“The only session we have is tomorrow and we have to see how he is then, but today was the first day he did a little bit more.

“[And] Daniel Sturridge trained completely normally yesterday.”

Liverpool will be without long-term absentees Jordan Rossiter, Joe Gomez and Danny Ings, with Jurgen Klopp having an otherwise full strength squad to choose from.
