Tottenham Hotspur Team News: Spurs Hit By Injury To Midfielder As Lloris Struggles To Recover For Palace Tie

Tottenham Hotspur will be without midfielder Tom Carroll and inspirational goalkeeper Hugo Lloris when they host Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Spurs have been in sensational form in the season so far, with one of the key reasons for this being the form of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman has helped manager Mauricio Pochettino to make Spurs the best defensive side in the league. However, an injury to the French international meant he missed the midweek 1-1 draw in Florence in the UEFA Europa League.

Carroll out injured

Midfielder Tom Carroll also joined Lloris on the treatment table when he was taken off the field at half time against Florentina, and manager Pochettino has confirmed that he will miss the upcoming tie.

Pochettino was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “Tom got a cut in his Achilles. We hope that in seven to 10 days he will be available again.

“Hugo is out for Sunday, but we hope for next Thursday he will be available. Jan Vertonghen and Clinton Njie are still recovering from their injuries.”

Mason good to go

One man who has recovered from his injury is Ryan Mason. Mason captained the side in Florence having missed the action since November.

The midfielder is fit and will provide another selection headache to the manager. Pochettino added: “It was special for him and he deserved to be nominated. He is a great man and great professional. We are happy that he is back because he is someone who can help the team.”

Palace face uphill task

Palace will be up against a Spurs side that is in 2nd position in the Premier League, having scored just one less than the league’s top scorers Leicester City and conceded the least number of goals.

Spurs have won 7 of their last 8 games, with Palace winning just 2 of their last 11. The contrasting numbers and an almost fit squad to chose from for Pochettino means Palace will have to play out of their skin to get anything out of this game.
