Sergio Aguero has an impressive record against Tottenham Hotspur and the Argentine says that he will show the North Londoners no love when they show up at the Etihad Stadium this Valentine’s Day.
“I’m not sure why I’ve scored so many goals against Spurs, it’s just happened that way. I hope I can keep up that form on Sunday and hopefully help us win this match, but we know it won’t be easy,” Aguero was quoted saying by Manchester City’s official website.
Aguero has always scored a lot of goals against Tottenham Hotspur, but when asked whether he wanted revenge for the 4-1 loss City suffered at White Hart Lane earlier this season, the Argentine striker said that winning the title is a much bigger motive than getting retribution.
“It’s not a matter of payback, though it was painful to lose in such a way. It’s a matter of maintaining our performance level. There’s no personal vendetta against Tottenham,” said Aguero. “If we want to win the League, we have to win against our biggest contenders. That’s what it is about and we’ll be doing all we can to bounce back from the Leicester defeat on Sunday.”
Manchester City still in the hunt
The Citizens are currently six points adrift of league leaders Leicester City after suffering a 3-1 loss against them last weekend. Normally such a result at this stage of the season would have spelled the doom for manager Manuel Pellegrini and his men. However, the Premier League has been quite unpredictable this season and that alone might still be holding Manchester City’s title challenge together.
However, in order to give themselves a shot at the title, they need to win the big games like the one against Tottenham Hotspur and also keep getting results in the other matches. Essentially, they cannot resort to hoping that the three teams above them slip up and have to make sure they go for maximum points in all their remaining games.
