The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has said that this could be one of the best opportunities in years for the Spurs to lay claim to the Premier League title. However, they need to do some prioritising if they want the grand prize.
Redknapp thinks that it’s crunch time for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. A wide open title challenge like this, with the Spurs very serious contenders for the title, could be their only chance at glory for a long time, according to their former gaffer.
“I’d expect Man City to be twice as good next season under Pep Guardiola, Chelsea will come back strong and you’d expect Man Utd to be much better next season. The door is open for Spurs this season and they have to try and take it”, said Redknapp in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Sport.
“It is getting to a point where Spurs have to decide what they want to go for this season. They have the Europa League and the FA Cup to look at and they have to start prioritising if they have a real chance to win the Premier League title.”
Tottenham Hotspur looking to dethrone Leicester City
The Foxes made their most definitive signal of intent with a 3-1 victory over fellow title contenders Manchester City last week. The Spurs have a chance to do something similar as they gear up to face the Citizens this weekend. The match could be pivotal to their title challenge. If they win, they could cut down Leicester City’s 5 goal lead at the top, or establish a 3 or 2 point advantage over Arsenal, depending on the results of the Arsenal-Leicester City game.
However, they still have a grueling season to go and are currently competing for the FA Cup and Europa Cup as well. The young squad have been coping quite well with the demands of a hectic schedule so far, but as the business end of the campaign approaches, it will be interesting to see whether manager Mauricio Pochettino follows his predecessor’s advice and does a bit of prioritising.
