Having been discarded by former manager Brendan Rodgers, Lazar Markovic is wanted back by current Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp to boost the attacking firepower at Anfield, as per Turkish paper AMZ.
Liverpool’s lack of firepower up front is well documented, with the Reds top scorer being Christian Benteke with just 7 goals.
The injuries to Danny Ings, Divock Origi and the constantly injured Daniel Sturridge means the problem is further compounded.
Klopp wants Markovic back
Liverpool had loaned out Serbian youngster Lazar Markovic earlier in the season, after he had struggled with the Reds last season having signed amidst much fanfare in a 20m GBP deal.
However, TMZ now report that Jurgen Klopp is looking to bring back the youngster in order to boost his side’s attacking prospects.
The report states that Klopp had already explored the option to recall the Serb in the winter, however, with no option for Fenerbahce to buy him in the summer, he is primed for a return to Anfield.
Is Markovic a solution?
Markovic struggled to fit in at Anfield last season. While many pointed out that manager Brendan Rodgers did not play him in the right positions, it is imperative to remember that the Serb failed to make any sort of impact till November 2014, when he was mostly played in his preferred position.
This prompted Rodgers to deploy him in a wing-back role with a change in formation also taking place, whereby his form considerably improved.
Markovic has made only 11 starts for Fenerbahce, despite the Turkish outfit playing well over 31 games already this season. With the player struggling to hold down a regular place in the Turkish league, it is difficult to see how he can make an impact at Liverpool FC right away.
Maybe Klopp can work his magic again with another young player, considering Markovic clearly has the pace and the pressing style to suit his style of play.
