Liverpool FC team update: Lallana a doubt for Norwich City clash, Klopp encouraged by Sturridge recovery

Liverpool FC have just one additional injury headache ahead of their trip to Carrow Road for Saturday’s early kick-off against Norwich City, with England international Adam Lallana a doubt with a muscle problem

Carrow Road has been a happy hunting ground for Liverpool FC in their past few visits, but the Reds take on a Norwich City side motivated not only by some impressive January additions to the first-team squad, but also their proximity to the relegation zone.

Much has been made of the Anfield outfit’s injury issues, with a whole host of key first team members out at the moment, including the likes of Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge. In good news, however, manager Jürgen Klopp revealed that Sturridge’s recovery had gone well over the past few days, while there have been no other serious additions to the injury list.

Lallana a doubt for Norwich trip

The former Southampton captain is unlikely to make an appearance against Norwich City — if only as a precaution — with a muscle issue he picked up in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield last week.

Addressing the media in his pre-match press conference, Klopp is quoted by the Liverpool FC official website as saying: “At the moment there are no new big problems but could be big enough that we have to change a few things.

“Adam Lallana is a little bit in doubt. He’s here and trained yesterday, but not normal training. He had a little issue but we have to see, we have to wait until training today to see.

“It was a little bit of a muscle [problem] only in the Manchester United game. Afterwards he needed a little bit longer to recover and now we have to see if we have enough time to bring him back.

“I think that’s the only new one. From the others, no players are back.”

Sturridge recovery encourages Klopp

The England striker has been out of action since the beginning of December, and many Liverpool FC fans are beginning to lose patience with a player who is among the most highly paid at the club.

Klopp admitted that he could do little but wait for Sturridge to recover, with the German adding that he was pleased with the Englishman’s progress over the past week. “The last four days were really good and he could do what he had to do,” Klopp said. “In this moment he is in a good way, but still needs time. I can’t change it.

“So there’s nothing really new in this situation – it is training. But, to be honest, the last four days were good and hopefully he can do it like this for the next four or five days and then it will have been 10 days, which is better than only two.

“Then we have to see where he is and how the situation is, and we can hopefully decide if it’s time for him.”
