Centre-back Papy Djilobodji left Chelsea FC on loan to join Werder Bremen yesterday after having played just one minute of football for the Stamford Bridge outfit — that coming in the League Cup against League One side Walsall.
After failing to sign centre-back John Stones from Everton, Chelsea FC completed the signing of Papy Djilobodji from FC Nantes in the final hours of the summer transfer window. Although few Blues fans expected him to have a big impact, even fewer would have predicted that the Senegal international would play just one minute of football for the club.
Chelsea FC announced his departure on loan for the rest of the season to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he is likely to have better luck getting minutes on the pitch. The Blues are unlikely to ever use him in the future, and a permanent summer transfer in the summer looks extremely likely.
Unsurprisingly, much hilarity ensued at the announcement of his departure, with Blues fans taking to Twitter to bid their sarcastic farewells to Djilobodji, with one even putting together a compilation of his highlights in Chelsea FC blue.
