The Reds have submitted a formal bid for reported Chelsea FC target Alex Teixeira, with Jürgen Klopp looking to make his first big signing since his arrival at Anfield
Liverpool FC have struggled to score goals this season for a number of reasons, and have reportedly been looking to enter the market in January to add quality to an attacking department that appears extremely susceptible to injuries and inconsistency.
To that effect, manager Jürgen Klopp appears to have taken the first steps towards hijacking Chelsea FC’s move for Shakhtar Dontesk star Alex Teixeira, who has been in fine goalscoring form this season.
According to the usually trustworthy Liverpool Echo, Reds chief executive Ian Ayre has flown to Florida in an attempt to complete the signing of the Brazilian. The report claims that a bid of £24.5m has been tabled for Teixeira, who has an incredible 25 goals in all competitions already this season.
The 26-year-old has been issuing ‘come and get me’ pleas to Premier League champions Chelsea FC, but with the Blues stocked in the attacking department and chasing their own Brazilian in Alexandre Pato, it looks as though Liverpool FC might have swooped in successfully to hijack the move for the Shakhtar forward.

Teixeira transfer a strange one for Liverpool FC
Although there is little doubt that Klopp needs more goals in the team — Bournemouth and Sunderland have scored more goals than the Anfield outfit this season — the signing of Alex Teixeira would be strange given the number of options Klopp has in the attacking midfield department.
The Shakhtar man is not an out-and-out striker by any means, and has usually operated in a central attacking midfield position or on the left. Klopp has the options of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana in the 4-3-3 that he tends to opt for, and as such, finding a natural place for Teixeira in the side may not be easy.
