Arsenal FC have let Leicester City back into the Premier League title race with a draw away at Stoke City, but Petr Cech made the whole dressing room feel much better about this result, says Gunners winger Theo Walcott.
This draw left Arsenal FC and Leicester City tied at the top of the table with 44 points each. However, what Petr Cech explained to the dressing room was that the hard-earned point at Stoke City was as good as a win, as most of the other top teams have lost miserably on their trips to the Britannia Stadium.
“He’s a leader in that dressing room. He’s lifted everybody’s heads in that dressing room at Stoke, saying this is a very good point, no-one tends to win here,” Walcott was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“We’ve just got to look at him because he’s obviously been at the top level and won many things. We all have the belief he’s got that we can push on.
“The mental strength in this dressing room’s the strongest it’s ever been. When you have the likes of Petr Cech come into the dressing room as well, he just enhances that.”
A tale of two goalkeepers at Stoke
Petr Cech was not only instrumental in lifting the spirits of the Arsenal FC dressing room, but also helped his side salvage the goalless draw at the Britannia Stadium, making a flurry of brilliant saves against the home side. However, it was not just Cech who kept the scores level. Stoke City’s English goalkeeper Jack Butland was also instrumental in keeping the Gunners out of his own net at the other end. In the end, it was the kind of 0-0 draw, where both goalkeepers had to work their socks off to get their clean sheets, which was an absolute treat for the football connoisseurs to watch.
