In a news that will make millions of Red Devils fans hopeful, reports from England suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson might make a return to Manchester United if Louis van Gaal gets sacked.

While the Dutchman seems to have consolidated his position a bit after captain Wayne Rooney gave the Red Devils a win over bitter rivals Liverpool FC, Van Gaal’s seat in the Manchester United dugout still seems to be on shaky grounds.

Manchester United continued to play their ‘boring’ brand of football, failing to register a single shot on target for majority of the game. In fact, their first shot on target was the Rooney volley that bulged the roof of the Liverpool FC net. The uninteresting style of play has received criticism from the supporters, as Manchester United find themselves out of the top-four spots in the league.

These developments have lead to Van Gaal being rumoured as close to getting sacked, with the possibility of his current deputy and former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs taking over the reins for the rest of the season. However, Giggs is relatively inexperienced in top level football management, which is why Ferguson might take up an advisory role to help the Welshman, according to the Daily Mirror.

Sir Alex Ferguson: The Consigliere of Manchester United?

He was undoubtedly the godfather at the Old Trafford, once upon a time, but a return to the club this time around might just be restricted to acting as an advisor to Giggs, for Ferguson. The former Manchester United boss may not even be present in the dugout, but Giggs is bound to learn many a thing from one of the greatest managers of the English game, if indeed the reports turn true.
