Speaking after Everton’s 3-3 draw against Chelsea, manager Roberto Martinez tore into the match-officials for failing to disqualify John Terry’s last minute equalizer at Stamford Bridge.
Despite taking the lead in the 90th minute, John Terry’s exquisite, albeit off-side goal, left Roberto Martinez frustrated with the match-officials.
The level of refereeing was diabolical
As reported by the Daily Mirror, Martinez hit out against the referee as he claimed that Everton lost the match due to horrific decisions made towards the closing stages of the game.
“The level of refereeing was diabolical.”
“All you want is the referee to do his job. The linesman is in a good position, it’s a touch from Oscar and Terry is clearly, clearly offside.”
Fifty seconds past the stipulated extra time, John Terry equalized from an off-side position, leaving Everton ‘heartbroken’ after an enthralling display in the second half. Martinez did not mince his words as he berated the match-officials for failing to competently perform their job.
“It’s a clear-cut offside that should have been spotted. To make it worse, it’s 50 seconds over time. It’s something that’s not good enough.”
“And maybe the referee needs help with a clock where everyone can see it.”
Guus Hiddink himself accepted that the goal was scored from an offside position but the manager did claim that Chelsea deserved to earn a point at Stamford Bridge. The interim manager also lauded Terry’s last minute finish as he commented that his decision to send the ‘two centre-backs up top’ paid off in the end.
