The football world has been shaken by the news that the two Madrid clubs Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will have a transfer ban imposed on them for the next two windows, however Arsene Wenger shrugged off the news of the ban saying that it wouldn’t happen.
Wenger wasn’t very interested in the ban and dismissed it saying that, “They will appeal, they will cancel the ban and they will be allowed to buy in the next two transfer windows. That’s what will happen.” [via: Sky Sports]
The ban has been slapped on the two Madrid clubs by FIFA, who will not be allowed to buy players in the two transfer windows after this one, after they discovered that they had breached sanctions on signing players under the age of 18.
La Liga deja vu
The situation is similar to the one that Barcelona faced in 2014 after they had a ban slapped on them for the same reasons. The Blaugrana however, took full advantage of the transfer window before the ban to sign players like Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic, who played a huge role in their treble winning season.
This is perhaps what Wenger was alluding to, and if the two clubs manage to appeal the decision and postpone it until after the next summer transfer window, then Premier League sides like Arsenal, as well as other top clubs across Europe, would have to keep an eye out on the two Madrid clubs, who will look to wrap up a number of deals before the ban to make sure the squads remain in top shape.
