There has been a lot of talk about a move back to the Premier League for Gareth Bale, with Manchester United being tipped as the favourites to land him, but former Reds player David May does not see this move happening.
The rumours have bee further fuelled by the fact that Manchester United have been lacking on the attacking front this season — one of the main reasons why Louis van Gaal’s side have come under a lot of criticism of late. However, May believes that there is no substance to these rumours.
“You hear it every day where Bale is coming or Cristiano Ronaldo is coming back and I realise they have to sell newspapers but never in a million years is it going to happen,” said May to 888Sport.com. [via Daily Mirror]
“Don’t get me wrong I would love Gareth Bale to come to Old Trafford. But is it going to happen? I can’t see it. Not right now,” he further said.
May sited the fact that Manchester United are struggling to get into the Champions League qualification spots, could hamper their chances of landing the big names at Old Trafford.
“Will Robert Lewandowski or Thomas Muller? I know with the money involved these days you can pay way over the top to make sure you get these great players but would they come without Champions League,” quizzed May.
Manchester United coming back?
Van Gaal has made his frustration at Manchester United’s poor results quite clear in the media, as the Red Devils gradually sdlipped from the top-four places to the sixth position now, over the festive period. Manchester United had gone on an eight-match winless run in the festive period, but they have improved their results of late, winning two of their last three games in all competitions. However, Van Gaal’s side will need to churn out much more consistent performances, if they want to get back into the premier football competition in Europe.
