Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dismissed reports that he could join Arsenal FC this transfer window
Aubameyang has been in lethal form this season, rising to the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 18 goals to his name in the first half of the season. The forward fuelled speculation over his future by failing to turn up for training this week due to a ‘personal appointment’, but it appears the Dortmund star has no intention of leaving the club in the near future.
There was recent speculation that Arsenal FC were preparing a £44.7 million bid for the pacey forward to boost their striking options. However, speaking to ESPN FC, Aubameyang said, “Let me say this first: I am not going to Arsenal. Dortmund is my club and I am not leaving soon.”
Setting the Bundesliga ablaze
Aubameyang has set the Bundesliga on fire with his 18 goals and 4 assists from 17 games. Riding on his performances, Borussia Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga table with 38 points, 8 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
It comes as little surprise that he is being monitored by Europe’s top clubs — including Arsenal FC. However, he is contracted to his current employers until 2020, and if his words are to be taken at face value, the striker himself has little interest in a transfer away at this stage.
Moreover, Arsenal FC have a similar player in many ways in Theo Walcott, and are not known for shelling out vast sums of money either. For now, all signs point towards Aubameyang continuing his exploits at the Westfalenstadion.
