AS Roma To Sell Gervinho To Al-Jazira: Report

According to DiMarzio Roma have agreed to sell Gervinho Yao Kouassi to UAE Club Al Jazira for a reported fee of €14 million, plus additional bonuses.

The Ivorian winger is set to joining former Juventus and Roma frontman, Mirko Vucinic, and set up the attacking line for a Emirate club.

Despite an impressive debut campaign at Roma, under former Lille boss Rudi Garcia, Gervinho’s performances for the Giallorossi  have been far from perfect.

According to whoscored.com the Ivorian winger netted in just 7 goals, and provided only 5 assists in 37 games for club and country. Added to this, has been his dismal showing throughout most of this past seasons’ Serie-A campaign. Roma’s 11 match streak without a win, was also reflective of Gervinho’s profligacy in front of goal. More often than not, his erratic play style seems to have been found out, as many Italian defenders have founf his movements easier to predict.

The prospective move to the Gulf club, would be a step down for the winger, who despite being 28, still has a lot to offer.

His performances for the national team contrasted those of his domestic campaign. His attacking contributions proved vital in Cote D’Ivoire’s second AFCON title, as winners against Algeria, and DR Congo proved pivotal to the Ivory Coast’s march to a victorious final.
