Jose Mourinho has made five changes to the team that started against BSC Young Boys in the midweek, for Manchester United’s trip to Southampton.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has sprung a few surprises with his team selection for his side’s Premier League game against Southampton at the St. Mary’s.

Chris Smalling misses out of the matchday squad, with midfielder Scott McTominay pairing up with Phil Jones in defence. Ashley Young comes back at right-back in place of Antonio Valencia in the second change in defence.

The Portuguese seems to have opted for a diamond formation in the midfield, with Nemanja Matic at the base and Paul Pogba at the tip, while Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera occupy the other two spots.

Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford pair up in attack, with Anthony Martial dropping out to the bench after back to back lacklustre displays. Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot have made the bench as well, but there is no place for Eric Bailly.
