Lukas Podolski took to the field for the final time in a Germany jersey as Die Mannschaft played host to England at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund. The former Arsenal and Bayern Munich forward had one of the most fitting ends to his international career as he struck a venomous thunderbolt from long range to seal the game for his side.

The 31-year-old striker used the friendly against England as a testimonial of some sorts, and was given an ecstatic ovation from the German fans in attendance. He had made his 130th appearance for Die Mannschaft, and had found the back of the net on 49 occasions.

Prior to kick off, Podolski was given a heartfelt tribute and delivered a speech that delayed the start of the game by few minutes. However, the fans were not ones to complain as they chanted the 31-year-old’s name throughout the course of the contest.
