Barcelona overcame a 2-1 deficit against Atheltic Bilbao as they beat the Basque side 3-1 in the second leg of their Copa del Rey round of 16 clash. Luis Suarez and Neymar scored the first two goals for the Catalan side before Bilbao’s Saborit Teixidor brought the tie back on level terms in the 51st minute.
It took until the 87th minute of the contest for Barcelona to regain the lead and it was once again courtesy of a phenomenal strike by Lionel Messi. The Argentinian forward had scored from direct free-kicks twice already in 2017, and it was more of the same against Bilbao.
The 29-year-old did not add too much height to the shot, but it perfectly crept over the ball and went straight into the bottom-right corner, leaving Bilbao keeper Gorka Iraizoz with no chance to get his hands on the ball.
