Manchester United went into the match needing only a draw to proceed to the next phase of the Europa League. Even though the first half did not produce a goal, despite many chances for either side, the second half started with a bang as Henrikh Mkhitaryan sliced past the Zorya defence with a magnificent solo run to slot it into the bottom corner and give Manchester United the lead.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was played through by Paul Pogba and the Swede veteran added to United’s lead with a cool and collected finish while being one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

The win means Manchester United qualify for the next knockout phase, albeit in second place, thanks to Fenerbahce’s win over Feyenoord, which catapulted the Turkish side to first place.
