Liverpool registered a rare win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, beating Arsenal 4-3 to come away with their first three points of the new Premier League season.
An irresistible display of high-intensity “heavy metal football” in the second half from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was instrumental in handing the Reds a stunning victory over the Gunners at the Emirates. Success away at Arsenal hasn’t come too often for Liverpool, who prior to Sunday’s success managed just one victory in 20 visits to North London.
However, some Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane magic ensured the Reds brushed aside their Emirates hoodoo in Klopp’s first visit to the stadium as manager of the Merseysiders.
Arsenal were rewarded for a positive half of football with a goal from Theo Walcott in the 30th minute. The Reds restored parity at the stroke of half-time though, through a glorious Coutinho free-kick.
In a 17-minute second-half blitzkrieg, the Reds found themselves 4-1 to the good through strikes from Adam Lallana, Coutinho and Mane. The hosts did manage to pull two back through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers to make it 4-3, but failed to find the equaliser in the final minutes of the game.
Here are the highlights from Sunday’s thriller at the Emirates.
