Manchester United are having a crisis at the fullback position, with Matteo Darmian being the latest to succumb to an injury, leaving the club with no experienced fullbacks. It looks like Louis van Gaal is lining up a move for a Bundesliga defender to deal with this problem.
Louis van Gaal’s hand may be forced into making a transfer this January, after injury woes continue to adversely effect the Red Devils. And it looks like he’s set to raid none other than the Bundesliga club that dumped them out of the UEFA Champions League.
Wolfsburg fullback Ricardo Rodriguez to become a Red Devil?
23-year-old fullback Ricardo Rodriguez has caught the eye of the Manchester United officials, with The Sun reporting that the club have sent scouts to watch him twice already and that he is very high on manager Louis van Gaal’s transfer wish list.
The Swiss defender is valued int he region of 20 million pounds, but has a release clause of 27 million pounds at German club Vfl Wolfsburg, where he has spent the past 4 years. This means that Manchester United will have to negotiate quite a bit to land the player without breaking the bank yet again. They will also have to be wary of Real Madrid, who are also reportedly interested.
Injury crisis in defence
Italian right back Matteo Darmian came off with an injury in the second half of United’s 1-0 loss to Southampton, he is the latest in the list of injured defenders at the club. Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia are all members of the walking wounded at Old Trafford.
This means that buying a fullback is a top priority for the club this January and we could well see a bug bid launched by the Red Devils for the highly rated Rodriguez.
