Manchester United In Advanced Talks With Borussia Dortmund To Bring Back Januzaj

Manchester United have shown interest in bringing back Adnan Januzaj from Borussia Dortmund, with the Red Devils in talks with the German club to end the Belgian’s loan spell.

Januzaj was loaned to Dortmund at the end of the summer transfer window after making four appearances for Manchester United in August, one in which he scored the winner against Aston Villa. His Old Trafford contract runs until 2018 and Man United are said to be in advanced talks with Dortmund to recall the 20-year old.

No game time at Dortmund

Although Januzaj wanted to leave in the summer, he would have expected to play regularly. But the Belgian has made just 12 appearances since joining the club that has included just 4 starts. Louis van Gaal addressed that issue in November, saying that it was perhaps the wrong decision for him to leave.

“At a club like Borussia Dortmund, all the players are also of a certain level,” Van Gaal said, as reported by skysports.

“I said in advance that’s a big risk, because you have to compete with other players of a higher level and that’s not so easy.”

Not much of a loss for Dortmund, Boost for Manchester United?

Januzaj’s 6 league outings have all been from the bench, and he has not featured for Thomas Tuchel’s side since a Europa League defeat by PAOK Salonika on 10 December. Clearly, his absence will not make much of a difference to Dortmund.

However, Manchester United and Louis van Gaal find themselves in a tight spot at the moment and they will be looking at reinforcements in the transfer window to save their season. Recalling Januzaj will add the creativity and unpredictability that Louis van Gaal’s midfield lacks at the moment.
