Liverpool FC have now conceded 24 goals in 20 Premier League games, but their efforts to land a new goalkeeper seems to have been thwarted by FC Barcelona who are reportedly asking more than the Reds are willing to pay for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The German goalkeeper has been tipped to be one of the best young keepers in Europe at the moment, but has not been getting as many chances as he would like at the Catalan club.
The FC Barcelona manager has been managing a policy, where he plays Ter Stegen in the Champions League and the cup competitions, while playing Claudio Bravo in the Spanish league. As Ter Stegen won the Champions League with FC Barcelona last season, he would have been expecting to get more game time at the Catalan club.
An asking price of A?20 million seems to have put Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp off, according to the Daily Mirror.
More than he’s worth?
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is currently valued at a little more than A?10 million by . Transfermarkt.com. According to his current contract though, he has a buyout clause of A?65 million. While that is around six times more than his present worth, FC Barcelona do concede that the sum is too much for the 23-year-old. Liverpool FC are reportedly only willing to pay A?12 million for Ter Stegen.
Will the Reds back off?
While Liverpool FC are expected to spend some amount of cash in the winter transfer window in order to get some of the players that manager Jurgen Klopp wants, it does not seem likely that they would be willing to cough up A?20 million for the services of a goalkeeper, especially because they look like they could do with a few more additions on the other areas of the pitch.
