France has provided the Premier League with many players of note including Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry and most recently the world’s most expensive teenager, Anthony Martial.

Lacazette could have added to that list though, the forward registered 29 goals in all competitions for Lyon last year, but has faltered a bit this time around, managing only 8 goals in 24 appearances. The 24-year-old is a quality player and is yet to hit his peak though, and he reportedly turned down Newcastle United because he wants to make a move to a club that plays Champions League football.

Newcastle United and the French connection

There are 7 Frenchman currently in the squad, with the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa having also had stints in the club recently and Moussa Sissoko being one of the highly rated players presently at Newcastle United.

Although these players did well at the club, recent French recruits like Florian Thauvin have flopped and this, along with the Magpies position on the Premier League table, are believed to have had a hand in convincing Lacazette to not make the move to St James’ Park.
