Villareal Defender Gabriel Paulista Confirms His Agent In In Talks With Arsenal

The Villarreal centre-half Gabriel Paulista says his agent is in talks with Arsenal over a possible January transfer.

Villareal’s 24-year-old defender Gabriel Paulista has said that he dreams of a move to the Premier League.

The Spanish team is enjoying a great season and are currently unbeaten since early November. He is a pivotal part of that team and is helping his side finish with Champions League qualification for next season.

He joined Villareal in 2013 when he signed from Brazilian outfit VitA?ria, where he started his footballing career.

ArsA?ne Wenger is determined to make some defensive additions this month as injuries have brought to the fore, the lack of depth in the department. The Frenchman agreed that not signing anyone could be risky.

“It is risky [not to sign anyone] – too risky,” said Wenger.

“If we have another injury or two we will struggle.”

Summer signing Matheiu Debuchy has suffered his second serious injury since joining the club and is expected to be out for another three months after surgery on his right shoulder.

The Brazilian who helped Villarreal win at home against Athletic Bilbao confirmed that there was interest in him from Arsenal.

a Whether I go to Arsenal or stay at Villarreal, I wona t lose my head,a Gabriel said.

a Ia m very calm. My head is at Villarreal and Ia m very focused. My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.a

Gabriel has also spoke in a previous interview about his desire to play in England. a Playing in the Premier League is one of my dreams. I have spoken to my agent about this.a

Arsenal are evidently in contact with the player’s agent which shows their seriousness in getting the 24 year old in this window. The fact that the Spanish side wants to take Arsenal and Costa Rica striker, Joel Campbell, on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season, puts the Gunners in a good place as their negotiations could possibly be made easier. Campbell too would be interested to move away from the Emirates as he has found his game time limited.

The Gunners will have to pay a good sum for the defender’s services to the Spanish team since they would not be too happy losing an important, probably indispensable part of their team in the last two years. But from what the situation looks like currently, Arsenal can definitely make this transfer happen.
