Age might not be on Xabi Alonso’s side any more, but his football skills certainly are.
The Spaniard has been known more for his selfless displays in the middle of the park, than any sort of flashy brilliance. However, his control over the long passes and shots have still caught many an eye, as he has mesmerised before, at Liverpool FC, Real Madrid, and is now doing at FC Bayern Munich.
The 33-year-old scored a beautiful goal as he entered the training ground with club captain Philipp Lahm. Alonso picked up a ball and seemed to merely stroke it on the half volley with the outside of his left foot, from beyond the zero degree angle, near the corner flag. He had put the perfect amount of backspin on the ball though, as it swirled into the net.
