Manchester United beat FC Barcelona 3-1 in the International Champions Cup and the game has been discussed at length, however, there was one specific moment in the game that caught the eye of everyone watching the game.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal in a ‘Football Manager-esque’ move, substituted his entire team at the hour mark, to the amusement of fans, worldwide. Not only did the awkward substitution unsettle the opposition, it worked wonders for the Red Devils, who were leading 1-0 at the time, as substitute Jesse Lingard doubled United’s lead within a minute of coming on.
The move started with Andreas Pereira who found James Wilson with his pass, who thread through the ball to the on-rushing Blackett who sent in a low cross which was bundled in by Jesse Lingard, a goal made in Manchester if there ever was one. With this goal, Jesse scored his 2nd goal for the first team, after having previously scored in the win over San Jose Earthquakes.
Manchester United eventually won the game 3-1, with Wayne Rooney breaking the deadlock in the 8th minute from an Ashley Young cross. Rafinha pulled one back for the Blaugrana scoring an absolutely peach of a bullet from the edge of the box, after being set up by Sergi Roberto. Adnan Januzaj scored the final goal of the game, immediately after Rafinha’s goal, a neat tidy finish.
