Liverpool FC scraped through last night in the penalty shootout win over League Two side Carlisle in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is under increasing pressure for the poor performances by his side in recent fixtures and last night’s performance was no better, although the Reds did manage to secure progression, albeit only just.

Danny Ings opened the scoring for the Anfield side, heading in a pin point Adam Lallana cross. Derek Asamoah equalized for Carlisle United only 11 minutes later. The Reds had a staggering 47 shots at the goal by the end of the extra time, but only the solitary goal to show for it.

Croatian international Dejan Lovren was stretchered off after an awkward landing while competing for the ball, the defender appeared to have twisted his ankle.

Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho missed their penalties for Liverpool FC before Adam Bogdan saved Bastien Hery’s decisive penalty to give the Reds the win.
