Benzema has allegedly blackmailed Les Bleus teammate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape, as a formal investigation has been started by the French judiciary, against the Real Madrid star.

However, the 27-year-old has been set free after a day in custody, as the investigation carries on. The actual blackmail is said to have been carried out by some cocaine traffickers, and the Real Madrid striker has allegedly aided them by supposedly asking Valbuena to listen to their demands.

The main investigation over Benzema revolves what he said to Valbuena, and whether it was meant to pursuade the latter to pay up.

If found guilty of the charges, Benzema could find himself with a five-year-sentence in prison, something that could very well end his football career.
