The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) aired its much awaited documentary on Wayne Rooney called “The Man Behind The Goals” on Monday night.
Hosted by former England striker Gary Lineker, the documentary goes behind the scenes and takes an in depth look into Wayne Rooney’s personal life, including his wife and two sons.
The documentary features exclusive interviews with Rooney along with brief appearances made by David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a whole host of other big names from the football world.
As expected, Twitter went into meltdown following the airing of the documentary with many praising Rooney’s contribution to football over the years while others took the opportunity to poke fun at the current Manchester United captain.
Here are some of the best reactions from twittersphere.
Rooney could have been the best player in the world. The greatest ever English footballer. But he never came close. And that’s quite sad.

People creaming themselves over #Rooney documentary, lets remember he’s on A?300k a week, talking to a TV camera is the least he could do.

All Rooney’s biggest moments covered in this documentary and absolutely no mention of this photo. Criminal. pic.twitter.com/ULwqI2yaU2

Rooney is human, just like us. He doesn’t deserve to be treated half as bad as some of our fans treat him. Top player for us for many years.

Enjoyed the Rooney documentary tonight. Shame that his current performances are nowhere near as good as his highlight reel!

What a brilliant documentary on Rooney. A wonderful talent, who deserves far more accolades than he gets.

The tournament thing with Rooney too – 2004: frightening; 2006 – injured; 2008 – McClaren; 2010 – injured; 2012 – suspended. Unlucky really

Good programme on @waynerooney from the BBC. Normal, down to earth fella who happens to be greatest goal scorer in English history.
